About Indie Game Award

Indie Game Award, hosted by Taipei Game Show, has been discovering and celebrating independent game talent from around the world since 2015. The 2026 edition welcomed 515 entries from 51 countries and territories, competing across 8 award categories. This year also marked the introduction of “Best Social Impact” award, recognizing games that engage meaningfully with contemporary social issues.

Indie Game Award 2027 is now open for submissions. We welcome independent game developers worldwide to participate and present their work on the global stage.

Submissions

  1. Registration Date: Jul. 1st – Aug. 19th, 2026.
  2. No fee will be charged. The submissions are open to all indie game developers/publishers worldwide and NOT limited to Taipei Game Show exhibitors.
  3. Each team may submit only one entry. Publishers may assist multiple teams with their submissions, but each team is still limited to submitting only one entry.
  4. The submitted game must be released or updated after Jan. 1st, 2026, or in active development with a playable demo available at the time of registration
  5. "Best Student Game" award is designed to recognize student developers who demonstrate exceptional creativity and potential. All members of the team must be students and are required to submit valid proof of student status during registration (e.g., student ID with a registration stamp, proof of enrollment, or a 2026 graduation certificate). Entrants participating as student developers will have an additional opportunity to compete for the "Best Student Game" award. If it is found that any team member does not meet the student qualifications, the team will be disqualified from competing for the "Best Student Game" award, but will still remain eligible for other IGA awards.
  6. Incomplete applications will result in disqualification from the competition. Please ensure all registration information is filled out accurately.
  7. Please read the Indie Game Award Submission Guidelines carefully (including all important notices).

Judging Process

The competition is conducted in two phases — Pre-Selection and Final Selection:

  1. Pre-Selection Phase: A panel composed of industry professionals, games media, and community leaders evaluates entries by viewing gameplay footage.
  2. Final Selection Phase: The top 40 highest-scoring entries from the pre-selection phase advance to the final selection phase, where the panel plays and evaluates the game demos.
  • *If there is any uncertainty regarding the result, the jury panel shall discuss, reach a consensus, and deliver a final result to the organizer.
